Self Massage For Sciatica Nerve Pain Cream

Posted by Aromalief Team on

We have heard from several of our customers that they have shooting pain down their legs which may be caused by sciatica. Sciatica refers to pain that occurs when the sciatic nerve is pinched. The nerve may be pinched due to a number of reasons. Aromalief has helped many people with pain, but it is not a miracle and works much better when combined with self massage, stretches, and hydration. Lavender Pain Relief Cream Sciatica

How to Apply Aromalief for Sciatica Pain Relief

Rub Aromalief in circular motion into the lower back and buttocks (gluteus medius and gluteus maximus)  area. It is also important to rub the cream along the side of the thigh known as the IT Band. Use an up and down movement on the leg. To really work the cream in and get the blood flowing follow the steps below for a self massage.

Self Massages for Sciatica Nerve Pain

After applying the cream you can massage it into the back as described in the video from our favorite massage therapist Spencer from HM Massage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcADfhdlm2Q The best part of this video is that it is a self massage, which is great because you can do this without needing another person.

Start with the massage in the lower back that goes from the spine and moves out to warm up the area. Then use your knuckles from the top of the lower back down to the hips.

Use a tennis ball to help with pressure point releases as shown in the video specially in the piriformis area. You may only be able to tolerate sitting on the ball for a short amount of time, but over time you will be able to sit on the ball for longer.

Stretches for Sciatica Pain

Dr. Jo is one of our favorite doctors on YouTube. In this really great video she shares some helpful stretches for sciatic pain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UoITjubrgE&t=78s

It is important to notice that Dr. Jo has different recommendations based on how much you are able to stretch in the beginning. Starting slowly and progressing over time is key to not injure yourself.

You can do these stretches after applying Aromalief to help release tight muscles. Doing these daily will help to keep the muscles from tightening up again and causing you pain.

Hydration for Sciatic Pain

The body needs a lot of water to function properly. You can be using the Aromalief Hemp Pain Relief cream, doing the self massages and the stretches, but without proper hydration you may not be able to get as much relief. When your body is dehydrated muscles may spasm and cramp. This tightening of the muscles can put unnecessary pressure on the sciatic nerve. Get yourself a big cup of water and drink away. Don’t like plain water? Add an orange, drops of lime, maybe some mint or ginger. Do not add sugar.

Stand Up Frequently

Finally, the pressure from sitting for too long also affects sciatic pain. Make sure to stand up at least every 45 minutes and walk around for a little bit. This will give the body a break from the weight over the piriformis area.
